Valentine Henry Rose served in the army during the war. He was killed in Italy in November 1943. His home was in Maltese Road.

Valentine was born in Suffolk in 1919, the son of John Rose and Cissie Rose (nee Green). His parents had married in Suffolk in 1913.

During the Second World War Valentine served as Corporal 6014664 in the 5th Battalion of the Essex Regiment. He was killed in Italy on 23rd November 1943. He was aged 24.

Today Valentine lies in grave XVII. D. 22. in the Sangro River War Cemetery.

Valentine's home was at 5 Maltese Road in Chelmsford. His Chelmsford comrade, William Arthur Kimmence, also died the same day while serving with the 5th Battalion of the Essex Regiment and also lies in the Sangro River War Cemetery.
