Arthur Henry Sansom was born in London. He served in the army, was captured by the Japanese and died in captivity in Indonesia in March 1944. His mother lived in Anchor Street.

Arthur was born in London in 1916, the son of the gardener Albert Edgar Sansom (1884-1934) and Mary Sansom (nee Pearson).

In 1938 Arthur married Joan Mary Cannon in Essex. The couple had two children, born in 1939 and 1942.

Killed in Indonesia while a prisoner of war in Japanese hands. Aged 26

During the Second World War he served as Private S/163873 in 23 Field Bakery, Royal Army Service Corps.

Arthur was captured by the Japanese. He died in captivity on 26th March 1944 in Indonesia. He was 26 years old. Today Arthur lies in Ambon War Cemetery in Indonesia (grave 14. B. 1.).

At the time of his death his mother was living at 1 Anchor Street in Chelmsford.

He left an estate of £198 10s. 10d.
